Horses for Healing

Equine Therapy & Research Center | Firth, Nebraska

Horses for Healing takes a holistic approach when it comes to healing our riders and families. We work to design programs that are tailored to individuals and organizations. We partner with many successful organizations in order to accomplish your goals.

Therapeutic Riding

Participants work on following multi-step instructions, understanding cause and effect relationships, effective task sequencing, and assessing and reducing risk. Directing a horse through specialized sequencing tasks helps support executive function and planning, attention and focus, cognitive processing, and working memory development for participants in therapeutic riding. Therapeutic riding requires a specially trained therapeutic riding instructor who develops therapeutic goals in consultation with the rider and then develops a therapeutic plan to meet those goals.

A specialized field of equitherapy that involves physical therapists, occupational therapists or speech-language pathology professionals conducting both ground-based and mounted riding activities. The use of the horse directly in therapeutic activities can serve as a motivator for clients to engage in an activity that they might not otherwise be willing to do in a clinic setting.

Because horseback riding gently and rhythmically moves the rider’s body in a manner similar to a human gait, riders with physical disabilities often show improvement in flexibility, balance and muscle strength.

Corporate Leadership Retreat and Training

Looking for a unique experience for leadership and teambuilding for your business? Your corporate group can learn how to communicate better by spending time and learning how to interact with horses. Our program will be tailored to meet your needs and is lead by an instructor trained in organizational leadership.

Healing Caregivers Program

When you are a caregiver your time is usually spent meeting the needs of everyone but yourself. The healing caregivers program can be for an individual or done in a group setting. Physical activities such as groundwork and riding are part of the process as well as working with Take Flight, a mental health service provider.
